Kudos to Uniphos GPM on prestigious award

Uniphos Envirotronic Inc. is pleased to celebrate the accomplishment of our Global Product Manager, Ed Ligus, who recently received an award of recognition from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).

Ligus received the Volunteer Group Service Award for his dedication and outstanding service to the AIHA Real Time Detection Systems Committee, a group he worked with for a number of years.

“We’re very proud to acknowledge the contribution Ed has made to the industry,” said Brent Yaschuk, Uniphos Envirotronic Inc. CEO. “Ed’s knowledge of the industrial hygiene industry has been a great asset to our Uniphos team.”

Ligus was on a committee that developed a document called:

Guidelines for Reporting Specifications for Electronic Real Time Gas and Vapor Detection Equipment. The manual was developed to provide a standardized approach to the definitions and methods used to develop an equipment specification sheet.

According to Ligus, the initiative first began when the industry recognized that every manufacturer had their own version or standard of instructions. “They may have used their own terminology on accuracy, for example,” Ligus explained. “Such discrepancies can ultimately increase the risk to life and safety.”

Ligus said the committee was tasked with finding some standardization that would help the end user so there wouldn’t be any discrepancy or confusion on what the terms meant. “By providing a common language from manufacturers, the end users can better understand the capabilities and limitations of the instruments.”

The subcommittee included representations from equipment manufacturers as well as military, government, academic, emergency response and commercial end users.

The document was released in June 2017 in conjunction with the American Industrial Hygiene Conference & Exposition in Seattle.

Ligus has been a volunteer with AIHA for over 10 years.
