Mr. Rajnikant Shroff
Meet Mr. Rajnikant Shroff (alias Mr. Rajju Shroff), a name that echoes innovation, entrepreneurship, and sheer brilliance. Born into a family of entrepreneurs in a small town in Kutch, India, Mr. Rajju Shroff’s passion for chemistry and chemicals ignited at an early age.
The Ex-CMD of UPL, Mr. Shroff, quickly established himself as a visionary in the chemical industry.
A Pioneering Innovator
He established a novel process for mercury salt production in the UK and received royalties for it, a feat unheard of for an Indian in 1957. With his insatiable thirst for innovation, he then turned to mastering red phosphorous and went on to revolutionize the indigenous chemical industry by introducing its manufacturing in 1969.
Mr. Shroff continued to master other chemicals, such as Aluminium Phosphide (fumigant) and Zinc Phosphide (rodenticide) for agriculture. By the 1980s, UPL, the company he headed, was launching a groundbreaking range of crop protection products. Today, UPL is one of the world’s leading total crop solutions providers.

This visionary leader believes that business success should benefit not only its stakeholders but society as a whole. With a firm commitment to social responsibility, he has inspired and encouraged his team at UPL and UPL Group & Associate Companies to actively participate in various social activities and strive for the betterment of people’s lives.
But that’s not all. In addition to his core agrochemical business, he has nurtured numerous diverse business enterprises that have shaped into different group companies of UPL Ltd.
One of his remarkable initiatives, taken more than two decades ago when environmental concerns were just coming to light, was Uniphos Envirotronic Pvt. Ltd. It was his foresight and quick thinking that saw the potential for establishing an instrument industry for the Indian chemical industry, specifically for process and environmental monitoring applications.

Mr. Rajju Shroff, a business magnate who revolutionized the chemical industry, has also founded the Vapi Industrial Association (VIA), playing a pivotal role during its formative years.
But his contributions extend far beyond the corporate world. He has left an indelible mark on the social fabric of the industrial town of Vapi and beyond. His passion for building world-class infrastructure has resulted in the creation of numerous hospitals, schools, and colleges that have transformed the lives of countless people.
